Week 12: Exploring Northern Ireland & Scotland

This week has been a wonderful mix of adventure, heritage, and a touch of classic UK weather!

We continued our journey through the north of Ireland and crossed into Northern Ireland-what a spectacular part of the world. We checked off some real highlights - the Giant’s Causeway was just incredible, with those crazy rock formations right at the edge of the sea. We also made stops at the mystical Dark Hedges, a line of beech trees used as a filming location in “Game of Thrones”, and got a look at the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge which was first erected by salmon fisherman over 250 years ago and suspended 100 feet above the sea.

A special highlight was visiting Lisburn where my mum was born. We found her old home and a few places where relatives used to live. To top it off, we met a couple of lovely locals who came up to check out our car. They shared insights and stories about the area which made the visit even more meaningful.

From there, we caught the ferry from Larne to Cairnryan Scotland. The weather gave us a proper Scottish welcome, rain and more rain, but that didn’t stop us from exploring Dumbarton Castle, perched dramatically above the River Clyde.

Tonight, we’re settled at West Highland Way Campsite. Huge thanks to Andrew, the generous and friendly owner who lets van-lifers stay here for free. What a rare and kind gesture - it’s truly appreciated.

Grateful for another week on the road filled with memories, history and a few raindrops!
