Week 15: UK to Norway-Adventures on the Right Side (Literally!)

We have officially made it across the Channel and are now winding our way through the Netherlands and Germany on our route to beautiful Norway.

We took the ferry from Harwich, England to Hook of Holland, and it has been a mix of gorgeous scenery, friendly faces, and a touch of chaos.

One of the real highlights so far has been the people we’ve met. A big shout-out to Michael from “Manfred and the Fam”-we really appreciate your help and assistance with recommending a garage for some maintenance.

We have also been pleasantly surprised to find some free camping spots in Germany - a rare and wonderful treat for the road trip budget!

Now for the funnies…..

Driving on the Right Side: A Team Effort (Kind Of)

Pete was a bit nervous about making the switch to driving on the right side of the road. So, as any good co-pilot would, I offered to be his lookout for traffic on the left. Sounds responsible, right? Fast forward to our first bit of real congestion - Pete looks over for help….and finds me fast asleep. Completely useless. Let’s just say we’re chalking that one up to “navigational delegation failure.”

Supermarket Roulette

Another adventure came in the form of grocery shopping in the Netherlands and Germany. English is not included on most food packaging, which turned our supermarket visits into something of an experience. We proudly walked out with what we thought were classic cheese slices, only to discover later they were some kind of plant-based cheese-like product. Let’s just say it didn’t quite melt the way we hoped.

Despite the small hiccups we are loving the journey so far-next stop Denmark then Norway. Bring on the fjords, landscapes, and hopefully a bit more actual cheese.
